OMLET 2004 – JUNE 27

Once again this event was organized and held at the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers track at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology.

This year there were only 7 competitors in the 3 ½” and 4 ¾” gauge competition. At the end of the day, the scrutinizers Bob Intini and Gordon Mortimer came up with the results, being in #1 position was Barry Graham of the home club. This was Barry’s first ever entry into the competition. In second place was Cliff Bartlett of GHLS driving his 0-6-0T “Speedy”, while in 3rd place, again from GHLS was Aubrey Whitehouse driving his 0-6-0T “Simplex”. Two competitors retired due to mechanical problems (with their locos !).  There was no 7 ¼” competition. However, Mike Guy of GHLS gave a demonstration run of 20 minutes with his 7 ¼” gauge loco “Romulus”, pulling, and pushing, a load of 6,100 lbs!

In his remarks to the assembled crowd, curator Ian Kerr-Wilson, gave honorary mention to Brian Cole of TLS, driving Dave Powell’s 3 ½” gauge Caribou for just missing out the 3rd placing. He also thanked TSME for its contribution and continued support of the event, both financially and in participation over the past many years.

It was encouraging to see many TSME members in attendance. A full tabulation of the results and placings will be available at the September meeting.
